福岡大昆蟲展

The Fukuoka Insects Exhibition

The Fukuoka Insects Exhibition took place in the summer of 2023 to highlight Kyushu University's pivotal role in insect research and showcase its leading studies and impressive insect collection. Organized by the Kyushu University Museum, the Insect Science and Creative Entomology Center, and the TNC Project, the exhibition featured four models of myrmecophilous beetles from Japan, which we contributed for the event.

Stable fly pupa and its parasitoid

Stable flies are a significant vector for the bovine leukemia virus in cattle, including wagyu, in Japan. Spalangia cameroni shows promising potential as a biological control agent for these flies. We created a model of S. cameroni emerging from the pupa of the stable fly, as well as a full-body model of a female adult. These models were commissioned by a researcher studying S. cameroni.

Pests Exhibition

We entered the contest at the pests exhibition with a model of 3-step jumping fleas. This exhibition highlights the hidden beauty and ecological value of pests, promoting a new perspective on the relationship between humans and animals through art.

We were honored to win the “Hiroshi Nakamine” award.

You can view the model in person at the Pest Exhibitions taking place in Tokyo (August 31 to September 12), Osaka (September 18 to 23), and Fukuoka (September 28 to October 8) this year.
